Cold Empty Void

For the Secret Santa game jam, we were assigned a giftee and given two weeks to make a game based on the description they provided. As Cold Empty Void’s Santa, I decided to create a puzzle game that mixes maze navigation with trivia challenges.

Mechanics I spent the most time on: 

• maze generation
• Correct answer: move on
• Incorrect answer: restart level
• Level transition

Originally, I wanted to make the game more personal by asking fun-fact questions based on the giftee’s interests. Partway through development, though, I pivoted to a more general approach, focusing the questions on math, space, and video games instead. I also wanted to implement a timer and life system to add more of an edge.

I also had an idea to end the game with the player traveling through space on a unicycle (inspired by the giftee’s hobbies), but I ran out of time before I could implement it. Still, it’s something I’d love to add in a future update.
